Together we go far

When Leah and I co-founded People’s Yoga in 2014, she and I taught the majority of classes. I was teaching up to 2-3 classes per day and we were trying to figure out how to open up and create a yoga studio in East LA. From Day 1 however, we had a small team of instructors on board to help lay the foundation for the business. These instructors were people we met in the community who taught yoga in an accessible way.

My leadership journey began in that year because I was now committing myself to serve and lead a group of people to strive toward a vision that Leah and I created for People’s Yoga. I was a novice leader, did not have many answers, and made tons (TONS) of mistakes. However, I was determined to get better. I became a student of leadership authors Simon Sinek, Brene Brown, and John Maxwell, among others. My husband became my sounding board as he was and continues to be devoted to his own leadership journey. I joined coaching programs, worked on my own self-leadership and learned how to work better and more clearly with Leah. I have remained dedicated to the pursuit of becoming a better leader for the mission and vision of People’s Yoga.

Here we are 12 years later and People’s Yoga has a large team of 15 instructors who teach the bulk of People’s Yoga classes at the studio and in the community! I am incredibly proud of this team of consummate professionals who are dedicated to teaching great classes, connecting with the community, living their authentic lives and embracing a growth mindset with joy and humility to become even better instructors.

In my 12th year of business ownership, I’ve also had a revelation (thanks to the coaching program I am wrapping up) that I need to step up and serve our teachers even better. How can I help them become the best yoga and fitness teachers they want to become? In serving this amazing team of 15 instructors, they will step deeper into their teaching personas, increase their confidence and teach awesome classes as we strive toward People’s Yoga vision and mission.

I am so excited for this upcoming year and for the immense clarity I now have on focusing on this amazing team. Our People’s Yoga amigas deserve the very best studio for health, wellness, community and connection and our team deserves the best leadership, care and support that I can give. I’m ready for this next decade of People’s Yoga!
